A common middle eastern shrub, found in North Africa, Middle-east, Pakistan and India. Contains harmine and harmetine. Harmine is both markedly fungicidal and bactericidal. Has abortificant, aphrodisiac, sedative, vermifuge and soporific properties. Used for prolapse of the womb.

The alkaloids stimulate the contraction of uterus and exhibit a broad spectrum antibacterial & antifungal activity. The plant extract also exhibits significant analgesic activity.
