Effect
Piper longum is effectively reduce passive cutaneous
anaphylaxis against antigen-induced bronchospasm. Piper
longum decreased the rate and amplitude of respiration
and showed nonspecific blockade of acetylcholine,
histamine and 5-hydroxytryptamine induced spasm. The
hepatoprotective effect has been shown in carbon
tetrachloride-induced liver damage. A common use of the
fruit is in the prevention of recurrent attacks of
bronchial asthma.
Piper nigrum effects on sinus congestion, pleuitis,
rash, gall stones, colic, constipation, worms, lack of
appetite, indigestion, flatulence, obesity, cold
extremities, excess mucus, sinus congestion, hives,
rash, gall stones, parasites, fever, roughness of voice,
locally for boils, relaxed sore throat, piles, paralytic
affections, rheumatic pain, headache, prolapsed rectum,
toothache, dyspepsia, flatulence, debility, diarrhea,
cholera, disorders of the urinary system, cough,
gonorrhea, malarial fever.
When Zingiber was given to rats there was a fall in
serum cholesterol and hepatic cholesterol. On copper
sulphate induced emesis. Rhizome containing shogaols
5-biphenyl, 6-phenylpropanoids, gingerols (50 mg/kg b.
wt.) showed improved anti-emetic activity in frogs.

Piper longum fruits contain 1% volatile oil, resin,
alkaloids piperine and piperlonguminine and having
antiallergic activity.
Piper nigrum is stimulant, expectorant, carminative,
alterative, anthelmintic, decongestant, digestive,
antihistamine, coronary vasodilator, antihelmintic,
heart tonic (improves circulation of coronary artery),
rasayana Extract and essential oil is reported to be
antifungal, antibacterial. Fruits exhibit taenicidal
action.
Zingiber officinale is aromatic, carminative, stimulant
to GIT, antispasmodic, digestive, stomachic, vasodilator
(with sea or rocksalt), appetizer (with salt and lime),
expectorant, bronchodilator, topical and local
stimulant, analgesic, antiflatulent, aphrodisiac,
carminative.
