It is a large scandent prickly shrub, with long recurved
prickles, small yellow flowers with red dot at base of red
veins in terminal or axillary racemes, dark brown sub-globose
seeds in short beaked fruits. They yield bergenin (vakerin).
The roots have marked astringent and anti-pyretic
properties. They also have antioxidant activity and are
given internally in debility.
Used in Geriforte (GeriCare / StressCare), Geriforte Aqua,
Geriforte Vet, Himmune.
